The Social Media Trap
Most businesses jump on social media, post randomly, and see zero results. Is your brand actually engaging, or just adding to the noise? Let’s check.
1. Who Are You Really Talking To?
- Do you know which platforms your best customers actually use? (Are you wasting effort on TikTok if your buyers are all on LinkedIn? Focus your social media marketing where your target audience lives.)
- Is your content totally different for Instagram versus Facebook? (You can’t post the same picture everywhere. The content needs to feel native to the platform. Are you creating stories, reels, or just static images?)
- Are you ignoring your competitors’ comment sections? (That’s a free goldmine of customer pain points! People are literally telling you what they need and what they hate.)
2. Are You Selling Too Hard?
- How often do you post something that’s pure value (no sales pitch)? (The 80/20 rule: 80% helpful, 20% promotional. Are you educating or just shouting “Buy now!”?)
- Do you check your engagement rate before your follower count? (Engagement—likes, shares, comments—is a far better key performance indicator (KPI) than vanity metrics like followers. High engagement means people care.)
- Are you actually talking back to people who comment? (Social media is a two-way street. Ignoring comments makes you look like a robot. Customer relationship management (CRM) starts with a simple “thank you.”)
3. Does Your Bio Actually Work?
- Is the link in your bio sending people to the right place? (Don’t always link to your homepage. Use a Link in Bio tool or update it daily to match your newest piece of content marketing.)
- Does your profile picture look professional and match your brand? (Consistency is key for brand awareness. Use the same logo and colors everywhere.)
- Are you tracking the traffic that comes from social media? (Use tools like Google Analytics and specific UTM codes on your links to prove that your social efforts are actually generating website traffic.)
